Manual therapy is a specialized hands-on technique that target areas of your body that are limited in motion, working to improve your movement and reduce your pain. Manual therapy is especially beneficial if you are experiencing spine problems, joint injuries, headaches or other health conditions
Our expert registered physiotherapists have years of specialized training to provide gentle, specific hands on techniques to address muscle and joint injuries. This includes massage, soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, myofascial release, sports massage, cranial sacral and visceral therapy as well as neuromuscular techniques to help you feel better.
Part of the recovery process means strengthening the weakened muscles of your injured or painful areas. This provides better support to the joints and prevents pain from reoccurring. Our experts have years of training in gentle therapeutic exercises.
We demonstrate and teach you the correct way to do specific yet easy exercises to improve your range of motion, strength, coordination and stamina. In addition, we also teach you how to perform these exercises at home, so you can maintain your results
We know how important it is for you to manage your problem(s) independently and will make sure you can.
Integrated Systems Model
The Integrated Systems Model is offered to clients who want a comprehensive and thorough approach to difficult unresolved problems or to those who want to find the deepest cause of a symptoms. Two of our PTs are fully trained in this treatment approach and a third is in the process of becoming qualified. This original and precise method of treatment was designed by Dianne Lee PT and L J Lee, both internationally recognized Canadian Manual Therapists. The Integrated Systems Model is a global way of assessing a person systematically in order to find the primary “driver” that produce mechanical, neurological, cranial sacral or visceral restrictions and underlie many common yet frustrating symptoms.
Why it is important to find the primary drivers? Because once they are identified and treated, a lot of symptoms improve or are eliminated very quickly. once the drivers are distinguished, specific exercises are incorporated into a client’s home program so he or she can not only manage their symptoms but actually prevent recurrences.
The IMS model of assessing and treating a person is a fabulous addition to our ability to help people. We are very proud to be the first physiotherapy clinic to provide this approach in Kingston.
Modalities are different applications of the following items to reduce swelling, pain and help the healing process.
- Heat and cold therapies
- Electrical stimulation
Our experienced staff at Physiotherapy Kingston and Spinal Rehab Centre perform independent physiotherapy evaluations for lawyers representing a client as well as for insurance companies. A benefit to this aspect of assessment is that we can accurately record results using our BTE technology.
